Stingray is a twenty-three year old singer/songwriter from the coast of California. She is the daughter of famed Russian rockers Joanna Stingray and Sasha Vasilyev, an American singer and Russian drummer who helped transform the Soviet rock scene in the '80s and early '90s. With a Master's in Archaeology from University of Cambridge, Stingray started off as a different kind of rockstar, but her debut album "In Your Eyes" bridges the gap between a study of human behavior and music production. Exploring questions of identity, partnership, and purpose, “In Your Eyes” emphasizes the emotion behind our actions and the resilience of an individual’s spirit. It is a question of how we see ourselves in relation to others, and a confession of what might lie beneath what others see. Not a lamentation but a celebration, “In Your Eyes” revels in love, loss, and the fact that life is just “a wink of the eye and winking stars” (Kerouac, 1949).
